What is the Gospel?

Another word for gospel is "good news".

Its the good news all about Jesus Christ
-that Jesus who is God and who was with the Father at Creation came to earth as a man - the Son of God put on human skin and became a human being.
John 1:1-3, 14

We humans have sin in our hearts; we cannot be good enough on our own to be accepted before the fiery holiness of God.  You cannot stand before God when you have even one tiny drop of sin in you. Jesus became human like us so that we could become holy like Him, when we stand before God. Romans 3:10-12, 23

-So Jesus, who lived as a human being, but who was spotless, pure and sinless, died on the cross, carrying the punishment for all of our sins.  He died in our place. We have forgiveness for all of our sins if we are truly sorry for our sins and if we truly desire to live in a new way, to turn away from sin and to obey Jesus' words from then on.  He becomes our Lord and Master.  We live for Him, we become His followers and His servants. John 3:16, Matt 4:17, Acts 3:19, Luke 1:9

Then Jesus rose from death, with an eternal body, breaking the power of death.  Those who have repented of their sin, received Jesus' forgiveness, asked Him to come into their lives and be their Lord, will live forever in an eternal body. They are now called followers of Jesus or Christians. After they die, they will be with Jesus forever, with no more sin, no more crying, no more darkness, no more pain. 1 Cor 15:22-24

The last but very important part of the gospel that we need to share with people is that Jesus is coming again, as Judge of all people from all of human history.  This means He will decide whether each person has lived loving, serving and obeying Him, or not. His judgment will be right. The ones who have rejected, or said "No" to Jesus in their earthly lives, will be sent to hell forever. Jesus is also coming to rule from Jerusalem as King of every nation on the earth.  Finally the earth will have a leader who is filled with love and mercy; One who has the desire and the power to make the wrong things right. We look forward to Jesus' coming.  He will make all things new.  He will bring peace to the earth.  He will destroy all evil and darkness. We will be like Him and we will see Him as He is. Rev 22:12, John 14:3, 2 Cor 5:10, 1 John 3:2, Isaiah 9:6-7, Psalm 22:27

  • Make a choice to love, serve and obey Jesus all the days of your life.  Ask the Holy Spirit to come and help you.
